Battery Smart — a battery-swapping network for electric two- and three-wheelers — raised $21 million in an extension of its Series B round, pushing its valuation to $450 million (up 32% from the $340 million first-tranche valuation).
The round
- Lead: Rising Tide Energy ($21M)
- Participants: Asia Climate Fund ($6M), Ecosystem Integrity Fund, Acacia Inclusion
- Total raised to date: ~$170 million
- Filing-based: ₹180.5 crore via Series B1 CCPS
The round follows Battery Smart's $65 million Series B led by MUFG Bank, Panasonic, Blume Ventures and BII — a signal that strategic capital (Panasonic, MUFG) is backing the swap model for commercial 2W/3W fleets.
Why it matters
Battery swapping in India is consolidating around a few large networks. Battery Smart's growth — and the pool of strategic investors it's attracting — suggests the swap model is winning the commercial three-wheeler segment even as fixed charging dominates passenger EVs.
Swapping is an asset-heavy business that needs patient, strategic capital — Battery Smart is proving that capital exists.Advertisement
